Swimwear Styles

March 17, 2017

While the rest of the country battles blizzards, here in Florida, it’s time to start thinking beachwear. Here’s the Waterside Shops guide to the season’s top swimwear trends.

One-shoulder and off-the-shoulder

One of the biggest trends of the season, this is also one of the most flattering. It suits any body type, and can be worn in a one-piece or a bikini style, depending on your preference. Left to right: Araks off-the-shoulder striped one-piece from Everything But Water; Carmen Marc Valvo’s white one-shoulder one-piece, from The Beach House of Naples; Solid & Striped’s cut-out one-shoulder one-piece, from Calypso St. Barth.

High neck

The other high-fashion key to this season’s swimwear is a high neck. If you have a larger chest, try a cut-out style: it will accentuate your figure instead of smothering it. Left to right: Trina Turk’s high-neck swimsuit in Algiers print, from Nordstrom; floral High Tea high-neck bikini by Rebecca Virtue, at Everything But Water; Seafolly tribal-print high-neck bikini, from The Beach House of Naples.

Fabulous patterns

No matter the season, fabulous patterns are a surefire way to stand out on the beach and celebrate all things summery. We love (left to right) Tory Burch’s Garden Party underwire one-piece, Kate Spade New York’s Italian orangerie-inspired Capistrano one-piece, and J. Crew’s tropical-print bikini.

Lace-up and cut-out

Another catwalk favorite, another versatile style. Lace-up and cut-out details can flatter at the chest, a la Mara Hoffmann’s one-piece, from Saks Fifth Avenue; draw the attention to the hips, a la Maaji’s pineapple-print bikini Walk This Way, from The Beach House of Naples; or spice up an otherwise sporty look, a la MaxMara’s chic, classic one-piece.
