Lafayette 148 Debuts Aspen l48 Collection

With the debut Aspen 148 collection, Lafayette 148 creative director Emily Smith confidently weaves the house codes of impeccable construction, luxurious materials, and effortless versatility with Aspen’s cold-weather chic to create the ultimate seasonal wardrobe.

Coolly riffing on the stylistic hallmarks of alpine escapism – from après-ski cashmere Fair Isles to mountain-ready Italian shearlings – the capsule collection sees Emily Smith transfer her vision for the brand’s modern iteration from the city to the slopes. In doing so, taking Lafayette 148’s longstanding cultural and geographical proximity to New York’s downtown gallery district and reimagining it in the heart of Aspen’s ever-growing seasonal contemporary arts scene.

The collection itself sees Lafayette 148’s signature sculptural forms explored in new materials. Down-filled ski-inspired jackets are paired with quilted nylon skirts to lend the elegant silhouettes a sporty modernity. The house’s expertise in materiality and texture is also showcased through a new range of statement footwear styles: chunky hiking boots are lug-soled and shearling-trimmed to ground the outdoor looks, while extravagantly deep-piled shearling slides provide the ultimate fireside slip-on.

Further inspired by the glacial imagery of the artistic community who have documented the Aspen landscape for generations, the knitwear is presented in a range of mohair-cashmere crystalline intarsias in shades of ice and granite, the range extending to include statement ponchos and balaclavas, as well as bonnets and mittens. And after a day on the piste, the range also takes in the spa, where sustainable swimwear pops in playful primary colours taken from vintage alpine sportswear.

In this capsule collection, Emily Smith demonstrates the effortless breadth of Lafayette 148, confidently contemporizing its 1990s codes for the winter vacation needs of modern woman – where cultural and active pursuits collide at altitude.

Emily Smith: “Aspen’s rich contemporary arts program and alpine lifestyle makes it an annual congregation for so many of our community over the holiday season. This capsule collection is an homage to that community, and the women who live and vacation there, a sartorial celebration of winter escapism – wherever you are, whatever you’re doing.”
